Services

Our Services

The Fort St John Association for Community Living (FSJACL) provides services and supports to adults with developmental disabilities.

Our Mission:

"The Fort St. John Association for Community Living supports adults with developmental disabilities to achieve full and meaningful lives in our community by providing resources to individuals and families."

The FSJACL provides services to adults who are over 19, but also provide some transition services to people under 19 years of age if they are transitioning into adult services.

The FSJACL is funded by Community Living BC (CLBC) and therefore, individuals must meet criteria set by CLBC to receive our services. If you are interested in our services, see the information below on how to apply.

Residential Services

The Fort St. John Association for Community Living provides a variety of services varying from total care for individuals with high needs to semi-independent living for those who require less support. The number of individuals living in the homes vary, as well as the level of support required. On-going training is provided to enable staff to provide quality support to all individuals in care.

Home Sharing

Home sharing is a residential option in which an adult with a developmental disability shares a home with someone who is contracted to provide ongoing support.  To find out more about this service, or if you're interested in becoming a home share contractor, please contact Pat Taylor at (250) 787-9262, ext 224.

Respite

For families of adult children with special needs; respite means families get a break knowing that their loved one is in a safe and healthy environment.  This can be provided in some of our staffed residences or we might be able to assist you in finding someone to deliver the respite for you.  We sometimes have people who are waiting for the right home share match to come along who have gone through a thorough screening process, and are willing to provide respite.

Day Programs

Community Connections

This service provides community access, supported independent living and life skills training to individuals with developmental disabilities. This includes skills training such as budgeting, cooking, laundry and housekeeping.

Supported Employment

Careers is a program that helps individuals obtain and maintain work within the community. On the job training and support is provided to the individual. Resume writing, application writing and other employment skills are offered.   For more information about our Supported Employment Program click here

How do I apply for Services?

  • You need to meet with your Community Living BC (CLBC) representative to determine whether you qualify for services. Once they determine that you are eligible for their sevices you need to plan for what services you may require.  You are welcome to come and see our facilities to see what services may fit your needs. We will give you an intake form to complete.
  • Once the intake form is received, we will want to meet with you to discuss the services you require.  At that point, we will determine if we are able to meet your needs.  If so, we will make plans with you to enter our services.  There may be a waitlist for services in some programs, or you may need to wait for additional funding from CLBC, if this is the case, we will inform you of this.
  • At this point, if the referral is accepted, a Person Centered Plan (PCP) should be started for the individual to set goals and outcomes for our services.
**Admissions will be dependent on vacancy. Priority regarding placement will be given dependent on needs, in consultation with Community Living BC.
