Fort St. John Association for Community Living

Supported Employment Program

Where educating the world on real work for real pay happens every day.

Do you want to hire someone great? That does well or better at their jobs than other employees and that has above average attendance?

"Employers have recognized for some time that it's smart business to have a diverse workforce - one in which many views are represented and everyone's talents are valued. Well, disability is part of diversity."

Thomas Perez

We are committed to have higher job placement numbers in our community.

Did you know?

Statistics Canada survey show staff retention was 72% higher among persons with disabilities. Significantly reduced turnover has been substantiated by organizations nationally including Tim Hortons franchise. Among our own community just to mention a few Urban Systems, PW Transit, Li-Car Management and Safeway have marginalized people employed, for years all with a very low absentee record and no injuries ever.

The Urban Systems Fort St. John branch office is fortunate to have “John” come through the Supported Employment Program with the FSJ Association for Community Living to work in our workplace every week . John performs a vital role in managing the secure document & paper correspondence shredding for our office, an important task for any professional office. John does this work exclusively, with minimal supervision and does it extremely efficiently. John is an integrated part of the larger office team, and will join in by contributing to the fun aspects of any extra social event that may be happening on the particular day he comes in to help. John is always cheerful and brings a new story to share with us every week. In the great many years that John has been working alongside us his absenteeism can be counted as; only one day off for sickness, and a second day because the snow was just too deep to get into the office! I can highly encourage any local employer to consider providing an opportunity for some of the great people the FSJ Association for Community Living support.

Regards,
Edward O L Stanford
