Mission, Beliefs & Purpose

FSJACL was established to provide services for individuals with developmental disabilities. The Association mission statement demonstrates the purpose and beliefs of the organization.

Mission

The FSJACL supports individuals with developmental disabilities and complex needs achieve full and meaningful lives in our community.

In other words, the FSJACL will help the individuals we serve, along with their support networks, create reasonable, measurable goals that support opportunity and growth.

Philosophy

We believe that all individuals in service have the right to the same opportunities as neurotypical and able-bodied citizens to live in a manner consistent with their needs, abilities, and desires. To support this, the FSJACL assists individuals in service to be as independent as possible. We help individuals understand their rights and responsibilities, and work with the individual to actively promote them.

The rights of the individuals with disabilities are protected under the Mental Health Act, the Human Rights Act, the Elections Act, the Child Welfare Act, and the Adult Guardianship Act.  All staff and contractors are to be aware of the importance of these acts on behalf of the individuals we serve and should refer individuals to consult with professionals conversant with these act should there be any question on their rights.

The Fort St John Association for Community Living will support the individuals we serve, along with their personal support networks to create reasonable, measurable goals to ensure opportunity and growth in their lives.

The Fort St John Association for Community Living welcomes support and involvement from parents, family members, professionals and friends.  Parents and/or guardians have the right to expect open, honest and tactful communication and to be informed of any concerns in a timely fashion.

Beliefs
