Saplings Mental Health Services strives to meet the mental health needs of the next generation at the community level. We are here to collaborate with service providers, stakeholders and community members who are working with children and youth in almost any capacity. The Saplings team is passionate about ensuring children and youth mental health is being addressed at this critical time.

Youth Short Term Assessment and Response (YSTAR) Outpatient

The YSTAR outpatient program provides compassionate, timely, and community-based mental health and substance use support to adolescents experiencing crisis, escalating risk, or transition from hospital to community. Working from a strength-based, trauma-informed, culturally safe, and family-centred approach. YSTAR outpatient focuses on recognizing resilience, reducing harm, and strengthening connection to natural and formal supports.

The Program responds to crisis concerns from community partners, completes community-based assessment, supports service navigation and referrals. It strengthens discharge planning and offers clients warm handoffs post discharge from the Fort St. John Emergency Department. The role provides brief follow-up contact and bridges supports so youth and caregivers are not left without connection after crisis.
